Georgia Venture Capital Program
The Georgia Venture Capital Program expands access to capital for Georgia innovation businesses by investing in qualified venture capital funds.
The $30 million program is funded through the federal State Small Business Credit Initiative (SSBCI). The Georgia Department of Community Affairs administers Georgia’s SSBCI funding and partners with Invest Georgia to operate the program.
How the program works
The Georgia Venture Capital Program uses a fund-of-funds model. Rather than investing directly in individual businesses, the program provides capital to qualified venture capital funds that invest in eligible Georgia businesses.
Invest Georgia works with a third-party administrator to identify and monitor qualifying venture capital funds. Selected funds conduct their own due diligence and make investment decisions based on their investment strategies and federal program requirements.
Investment returns received by Invest Georgia are reinvested to support future economic development in Georgia.
Investment parameters
Investments in participating venture capital funds:
- range from $1 million to $3 million
- are limited to 10% of the venture capital fund
- require a private co-investor match of at least 1:1.
For venture capital funds
Venture capital funds interested in participating must meet program qualifications and federal SSBCI requirements.
Participating funds are responsible for identifying eligible businesses, conducting due diligence and making investment decisions.

For Georgia businesses
Businesses do not apply to Invest Georgia directly for funding through the Georgia Venture Capital Program.
Investment decisions are made by participating venture capital funds. Businesses seeking investment should work directly with participating funds to learn about their investment strategies, requirements and processes.
